Within teams, surveys are an extremely useful and efficient way to collect ideas from your teammates. Slack allows you to create very simple polls and surveys, but they also offer more robust polls with add-in apps like Polly and Simple Poll.  


After just a few simple steps, you can learn exactly how to stay connected with your team and poll ideas without face-to-face communication, long phone calls, or tedious back and forth emails. As demoed in our How to Use the Internet Series: How to Create a Poll in Slack, here is our step by step process to help you stay connected with your team. 


How to Create a Poll in Slack 

To begin, open Slack in either your internet browser or downloadable desktop app.

To Create a Poll: 

  1. Go to “Apps” on your Left Command Bar
  2. Search “Polly” and click “Add”
  3. Open a Chat Window within the Slack Channel (or Direct Message) you want your poll to be in
  4. In the text tab at the bottom of your screen, do the following: 
  1. Type “/poll” 
  2. Click the spacebar and type an opening quotation mark (“) 
  3. Type your question and close the quotation 
  4. Click the spacebar and proceed to type all of your answers in quotations (“Cheese”) 
  1. Make sure to have a space between each answer
  1. Press the “Enter” or “Return” key 

To Create an Anonymous Poll

  1. Repeat steps 1-2 from above
  2. At the end of your last answer, type “anonymous” without quotations
  3. Press the “Enter” or “Return” key
