SHIFT + COMMAND + A has changed my life

71% of shoppers abandon their shopping cart. That means for every $3K that you earn – you’ve let $7K slip right through your fingers and it’s gone forever. Or is it? Cartstack says no.

In fact, there’s a short window of time right before a customer totally flatlines that you have to revive their shopping itch and actually convert that shopping cart abandoner into a full-fledged paying customer. But that window is tiny – so you have to act fast. Which is exactly where Cartstack comes in.

We had the chance to chat with Joshua Voydik, Cartstack’s Head of Business Development.

Josh gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how Cartstack always anticipates what eCommerce shoppers need, what the future of their product looks like and what process keeps the Cartstack team always one step ahead of online shoppers.

Q – How did you get into this industry?

I’ve always been into technology. After college, I decided to work with a company providing software and 3D printers to engineers. It was a great experience, but the company was too bureaucratic. So I started freelancing and building tech startups in early 2014, doing mostly growth stuff: business development, marketing and user acquisition.

Q – When you start a new project, what process do you follow?

I’ll typically wireframe what I think needs to be done. Once I have something, I’ll send it to my CEO or marketing guy to have them add content with notes, then I’ll take the project from them.

I’ll look at the big picture and end goal, then break the project into small, bite-sized pieces – and add it to both Trello and Asana. We’ll set due dates for each milestone, and go from there. It’ll go through several iterations.

Q – How much is your work focused on user experience and content?

Almost entirely. I want the user, whether a paying customer or not, to be more than satisfied with interactions with members on our team, our software and pieces of content.

Q- Where do you look for inspiration in your day-to-day work?

Books, twitter, blogs and solitude in nature. There’s a lot of noise out there, so I’m doing a better job of filtering out all the content online.

Q – What does the future of product look like?

Josh – As artificial intelligence and big data take over the tech landscape, I see out product turning into a completely robust API that will provide not only seamless automation, but key business insights by way of leveraging that data.

Q – What prompted the idea to start Cartstack? What excited you about it?

From CEO Brett – I used to work on the ecommerce team for one of the largest online stores in the world.  The cart abandonment campaign was their most profitable email campaign year after year, so I wanted to bring this type of solution to small/medium sized businesses.

Q- What are the workflows at Cartstack where you see teams using CloudApp?

From CEO Brett – Hmm, so many!  First of all, SHIFT + COMMAND + A has changed my life 🙂

Here are a couple:

  • Customer success/support – use CloudApp to take screenshots for our help docs, screenshots for customers, and we’ve also started taking personal HD videos for customer tickets (eg:  “Hi Mike, let me walk you through this…”) – customers love this!
  • Sales – screenshots, quick videos for leads
  • Product – we are always using screenshots with annotations as part of our product design/development process to call out certain UI changes, etc
  • Engineering / QA

Q – What tech is used at Cartstack?

Google Apps, Google Drive, ActiveCampaign, Cloudapp, Slack, Asana, Trello, Gmail.‍
